Union Hill Road and Novelty Hill Road are the two main east-west arteries crossing the plateau between Redmond and the Snoqualmie Valley.
The area retains a mix of rural, agricultural, and exurban character, with larger lots than typical King County suburbs. Equestrian properties and small vineyards occupy parts of the plateau, and several wineries operate in the area alongside their larger neighbors in the Woodinville Wine Country district. Cascade View Dairy and a handful of other working farms continue in operation despite the gradual residential fill-in of recent decades.
The Redmond Ridge and Trilogy master-planned communities occupy the eastern end of Novelty Hill Road. Redmond Ridge, a mixed-use development with housing, retail, and open space, began construction in the late 1990s. Trilogy, an age-restricted community for residents 55 and older, is one of the largest of its kind in King County. Population of the CDP is approximately 19,000.
The Lake Washington School District serves public schools in the Union Hill Novelty Hill area. Redmond Ridge Elementary and Eastlake High School are among the assigned schools.
