Sammamish on the Plateau East of Lake Sammamish
Sammamish occupies the forested plateau east of Lake Sammamish in eastern King County. The population is approximately 67,000. The city incorporated in 1999 from several unincorporated communities, and growth since then has made Sammamish one of the most affluent municipalities in Washington by median household income. Much of the city is residential, with a commercial core around Sammamish Commons.
Soaring Eagle Regional Park, Beaver Lake Park, and the Pine Lake Trail system together preserve a substantial portion of the plateau's second-growth forest within public ownership. Lake Sammamish State Park at the southwest corner of the city provides beach access on the lake. Marymoor Park in Redmond, at the northwest corner of Lake Sammamish, connects to the Sammamish area through a network of trails.
Most residents commute west to Redmond, Bellevue, and Seattle for employment, and traffic on East Lake Sammamish Parkway and SR 202 reflects that pattern. Issaquah to the south provides the closest retail and commercial center outside the city itself.
