Camas: Paper Mill Town on the Columbia Gorge

Camas sits on the north bank of the Columbia River in Clark County, about 15 miles east of Vancouver and directly across the river from Troutdale, Oregon. The city takes its name from the camas plant, a native edible bulb that grew across the regional prairies and was a staple food for Chinookan and other regional tribes. State Route 14 connects Camas west toward Vancouver and east into the Columbia Gorge.

Georgia-Pacific, formerly Crown Zellerbach, has operated a paper mill on the Camas waterfront since 1883. The mill has been central to the city's economy for more than 140 years, producing paper products through periodic modernization waves. The mill's scale has shrunk in recent decades as paper demand has declined, but it remains a significant employer. The plume of water vapor from the mill stacks is a visible landmark along the Columbia.

Downtown Camas centers on Northeast Fourth Avenue, a walkable district of restaurants, shops, and cafes that has benefited from the city's shift toward a more diversified economy over the past two decades. Washougal, the city immediately to the east, shares much of the economic orbit. The Camas School District, consistently ranked among the top-performing public school systems in Washington, has attracted families moving to the area from Portland and Vancouver.

Population is approximately 27,000. Lacamas Lake and Round Lake, two interconnected water bodies on the north side of the city, anchor a park system that includes Lacamas Regional Park. The Lacamas Creek drainage runs through the city on its way to the Columbia. The city incorporated in 1906.

Escort websites offering service in Camas are reviewed and listed on Escortservice.com. As a directory-only service, Escortservice.com makes no arrangements between users and the websites it lists. The site is restricted to users aged 21 and over.
