Short Pump is an unincorporated area in western Henrico County, near the intersection of Interstate 64 and West Broad Street (U.S. Route 250). The community takes its name from a colonial-era tavern with a short-handled water pump that served travelers along the Three Chopt Road. Short Pump developed rapidly from the late 1990s onward as Henrico County's westward expansion reached the area.
Short Pump Town Center, a mixed-use lifestyle shopping center that opened in 2003, anchors the commercial district. The center houses higher-end retail, restaurants, and office space on a pedestrian-oriented layout. West Broad Village and Innsbrook, a substantial office park immediately east of Short Pump, together form one of the largest employment clusters in the Richmond metro area.
