Baileys Crossroads: Fairfax County Inside the Beltway
Baileys Crossroads is an unincorporated community in Fairfax County at the intersection of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) and Columbia Pike (Route 244), inside the Capital Beltway and less than three miles from downtown Arlington. The area takes its name from the Bailey family, including Hachaliah Bailey of the Bailey and Barnum circus fame, who maintained a farm here in the early nineteenth century. One of the first circuses in the United States wintered in the area in 1837.
The Skyline complex, a cluster of large office towers at Baileys Crossroads, houses multiple federal contractor and defense offices. Target Skyline Plaza and the Crossroads Marketplace provide substantial regional retail. The community has one of the highest concentrations of foreign-born residents of any Fairfax County area, with substantial Central American, Ethiopian, and Middle Eastern populations.
