Lyndon is a town of roughly 5,500 residents in Caledonia County, about seven miles north of Saint Johnsbury along U.S. Route 5 and Interstate 91. The principal village is Lyndonville, which contains the commercial center, the college campus, and most residential development. The town contains five covered bridges dating from the nineteenth century, more than almost any other municipality of its size in Vermont.
Northern Vermont University, Lyndon campus, formerly known as Lyndon State College, operates a hilltop campus on the north side of Lyndonville. The institution is best known for its meteorology program, which has produced a disproportionate share of television weather presenters across the country. In 2023 Northern Vermont University merged with other state institutions into Vermont State University, though the Lyndon campus retained its physical presence.
