West Point: Davis County's Northwest Corner
West Point occupies the northwest corner of Davis County, set against the Great Salt Lake wetlands and bounded by Clinton, Syracuse, and Clearfield. The community was settled in 1867 as a farming outpost of Kaysville and Layton, and the name referred literally to its position at the western extremity of the Davis County settlements. Incorporation as a town came in 1935 and city status followed in 1999 as population growth pushed the boundary north from Salt Lake City.

Hill Air Force Base lies immediately to the east in Clearfield and Layton, and a substantial portion of West Point's working population commutes to employment there or to defense contractors operating in the same corridor. The base sustains F-35 and intercontinental ballistic missile programs and is the largest employer in northern Utah outside of the public sector.
