South Jordan: Daybreak and the Master-Planned Expansion
South Jordan occupies the southwestern portion of the Salt Lake Valley, bordered by the Jordan River to the east and the Oquirrh foothills to the west. The Daybreak development, begun in 2004 on 4,200 acres of former Kennecott Utah Copper land, defines much of the city's recent growth. Daybreak is designed as a new urbanist community with walkable village centers, a 100-acre Oquirrh Lake, and a plan to eventually house around 60,000 residents.
The South Jordan Utah Temple, dedicated in 1981, was the state's sixth operating temple at the time of its completion. The TRAX Red Line connects the Daybreak community to downtown Salt Lake City, and Mountain View Corridor, a state highway completed through South Jordan in the 2010s, provides north-south travel on the west side of the valley.
