Bountiful: Davis County and the Foothills Above the Salt Lake
Bountiful claims status as the second Mormon settlement in Utah, founded in September 1847 about two months after Salt Lake City. The pioneers named it after a city mentioned in the Book of Mormon. Bountiful lies just north of Salt Lake City along the eastern bench of the valley, with much of the residential area built on the hillside overlooking the Great Salt Lake.
The Bountiful Utah Temple, dedicated in 1995, sits on a ridge visible from much of the Wasatch Front. The temple's location on the city's eastern edge offers views west across the valley to Antelope Island. Bountiful High School, founded in 1951, and Woods Cross High School serve the Davis School District's southern attendance area.
Bountiful's commercial corridor along 500 South and Main Street retains a small-town character compared to the newer developments in southern Davis County. The Bountiful Pond and adjacent recreational trails along the Bonneville Shoreline Trail system provide access to the foothills.
