Grand Prairie straddles the boundary between Dallas and Tarrant counties in the Metroplex, with about 200,000 residents. The city was originally platted as Dechman in 1863 by Alexander McRae Dechman and renamed Grand Prairie in 1877 following the arrival of the Texas and Pacific Railway. Traders Village, a massive weekend flea market that has operated since 1973, covers 160 acres on the north side of the city.
