Pulaski: Giles County Seat with a Complex History

Pulaski is the seat of Giles County in southern Middle Tennessee, named for Polish-American Revolutionary War General Casimir Pulaski. The town was established in 1809 and now has about 7,700 residents. It sits along Richland Creek, a tributary of the Elk River, and is connected to Nashville via US Route 31 and Interstate 65 a few miles to the east.

Pulaski is historically significant as the town where the Ku Klux Klan was founded in December 1865 by six Confederate veterans. A plaque was placed on the site in 1917 but was reversed by the building's owner in 1989 to face the wall, an unusual public acknowledgment and effective removal that has remained in place. The first Confederate memorial erected after the Civil War was also placed in Pulaski. The county courthouse square contains several memorials that reflect the layered and contested memory of the Civil War and Reconstruction eras in this part of the South.

Martin Methodist College, founded in 1870, operated in Pulaski for 150 years as a small private institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church. In 2021 the college became the University of Tennessee Southern, joining the University of Tennessee system and expanding its programs. The campus occupies several blocks on the north side of town.

Agriculture and light manufacturing support the local economy. Giles County produces beef cattle, soybeans, and corn on its rolling farmland. A Magnetek plant and several smaller manufacturers provide industrial employment. The Trace Creek waterfalls south of town and Sam Davis Memorial Park mark some of the county's outdoor and historic landmarks.

Escortservice.com catalogs the escort sites listing Pulaski among their service areas. The site catalogs. Nothing beyond cataloging is offered, including no bookings, no vetting of advertisers, and no mediation. The site is restricted to users aged 21 and over.
