Agate Beach is an unincorporated community along the central Oregon coast in Lincoln County, immediately north of Newport. Population stands at approximately 12,351. The community takes its name from the agate-bearing gravels that wash up along the shore, which draw rockhounds year-round. Agate Beach is served by Lincoln County rather than a municipal government, and the Lincoln County School District handles public education.
The Ernest Bloch House, residence of the Swiss-American composer during the last 18 years of his life, sits on the hill above the beach and is a historic landmark. Yaquina Head, a basalt promontory south of the community, contains the Yaquina Head Lighthouse, built in 1873 and the tallest lighthouse on the Oregon coast at 93 feet. The surrounding Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area is managed by the Bureau of Land Management and includes tidepool and seabird viewing.
