Lewisville is a town in northwestern Forsyth County, west of Winston-Salem along US 421. The community was founded in the early 19th century by Moravian settlers and takes its name from Lewis Laugenour, an early local resident. For most of its history Lewisville remained a small agricultural community, but residential development has expanded the town's population to around 13,500.
Shallowford Square, a planned mixed-use town center developed in the 1990s, serves as the civic and commercial center of the community. The Mennonite Central Community Services and a number of church and community organizations reflect the town's religious heritage. The Yadkin River runs along the town's northwestern edge, and Lewisville maintains parks along several of its tributaries.
The Shallowford Square amphitheater hosts the town's summer concert series and Fourth of July celebration. Lewisville-Clemmons Elementary, Meadowlark Middle, and West Forsyth High School serve the area's students. Residential development in the town has been more restrained than in many Forsyth County communities, with retained rural buffers along several corridors.
