Long Beach is a small city on a barrier island off the south shore of Long Island in Nassau County. Population is around 34,000. Many Art Deco buildings from the 1920s and 1930s remain along the boardwalk and throughout the city. Hurricane Sandy in 2012 caused extensive damage, destroying the original boardwalk; a reinforced replacement opened in 2013.
The Long Island Rail Road's Long Beach Branch terminates at Long Beach Station in the center of the city. The neighborhood retains a mix of year-round residents and seasonal summer visitors drawn by the ocean beach and boardwalk.
