Randolph Township covers 21 square miles in Morris County and has a population of approximately 26,000. The township sits on the eastern edge of the iron belt that drove northern New Jersey's industrial economy through the nineteenth century, and Randolph's Mount Freedom section was once a busy Jewish resort area serving New York City.
The Mount Freedom resorts boomed from the early twentieth century through the 1960s, with hotels and kosher bungalow colonies drawing tens of thousands of summer visitors. The last of the major hotels closed in the 1980s, and most of the former resort sites have been redeveloped as residential subdivisions.
The County College of Morris occupies a campus in the township, enrolling approximately 8,000 students. Randolph has extensive preserved open space including the Black River County Park and the Clyde Potts Reservoir watershed.
