Nutley Township occupies 3.4 square miles in Essex County between Belleville and Bloomfield. The population is approximately 28,000. Roche closed the campus in stages after 2013, and the 116-acre site has been redeveloped as the ON3 mixed-use project that includes Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine, Seton Hall University's Nutley campus, and the Quest Diagnostics headquarters.
The Nutley Museum on the Nutley-Franklin Avenue, housed in the former Vreeland House, preserves local history. The Enterprise Route of the Third River runs through the township, with the Kingsland Park providing open space along its course.
