Wheaton is an unincorporated area in central Montgomery County centered around the intersection of Georgia Avenue and University Boulevard. The community takes its name from Civil War General Frank Wheaton. The opening of the Wheaton Metro station on the Red Line in 1990 spurred redevelopment of the surrounding blocks.
Wheaton Regional Park covers 536 acres and includes Brookside Gardens, a public display garden with themed areas and conservatories open year-round. The park also features a miniature train ride, nature center, and ice arena.
