Gwynn Oak is an unincorporated community in Baltimore County just west of Baltimore City along Liberty Heights Avenue. The area takes its name from the Gwynn Oak Amusement Park, which made national news in 1963 when civil rights activists staged protests to desegregate the facility. The park eventually integrated and later closed in 1973.
Gwynn Oak Park now occupies part of the former amusement park grounds, with trails, sports fields, and picnic areas managed by Baltimore County. The community's housing stock consists largely of post-war single-family homes and garden apartments. Liberty Road serves as the main commercial corridor with local businesses and chain establishments.
