Rising Sun-Lebanon is a census-designated place in Kent County formed by combining two adjacent unincorporated communities south of Dover. Lebanon sits on the Jones River and was once a shipping point for grain and timber moved by small vessel down the river and into Delaware Bay. The name predates the Civil War and refers to the cedar forests that once surrounded the landing. Rising Sun is a crossroads community along the old Dover-to-Milford road.
