East End is a census-designated place in Saline County with a population just under 7,000, located roughly 15 miles southwest of downtown Little Rock along the Interstate 30 corridor. Unlike incorporated cities, East End has no municipal government of its own; county services and special districts handle functions like road maintenance and fire protection.
The area developed as part of the suburban sprawl emanating from Little Rock and its southern suburbs in the 1980s and 1990s. Housing subdivisions replaced farmland and timber tracts, drawn by lower property costs compared to the Saline County cities of Benton and Bryant while maintaining reasonable commute times to Little Rock. The community is primarily residential, with limited commercial development concentrated around the I-30 interchange.
Saline County as a whole has been one of the fastest-growing counties in Arkansas for several decades, and East End has absorbed some of that growth. The Bryant School District serves most of the East End area, and the district's reputation has been a factor in attracting families. Saline County's economy mixes light manufacturing, retail, and a large commuter workforce employed in the Little Rock metro.
