Meadow Lakes on the Parks Highway Corridor
Meadow Lakes is an unincorporated CDP in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough west of Wasilla, straddling the Parks Highway and reaching north toward Big Lake. About 7,570 residents live on a scattered network of subdivisions, lakefront lots, and larger parcels carved out of older homesteads and logging tracts. The area grew substantially through the 1990s and 2000s as commuters pushed outward from Wasilla and Anchorage.
Big Lake to the north draws heavy summer use from Anchorage-area boaters, and the 1996 Miller's Reach Fire that burned more than 37,000 acres near Big Lake and Meadow Lakes left a mark still visible in the regrowth patterns of young birch and aspen across the CDP. Trapper Creek and the Talkeetna area lie further north along the Parks Highway, making Meadow Lakes a typical stopping point for traffic headed toward Denali National Park in the summer months.
